Blue Bloods

Blue Bloods Needs This Flashback Scene Now or Never

That would be a nice final nod to the show’s spirit.

  • Blue Bloods is a hit CBS police procedural drama that ran from 2010 to 2014.
  • The show follows the lives of the members of the Reagan family, all of whom are involved in law enforcement.
  • Fans believe that the final 14th season would benefit from a flashback scene with Joe Reagan, as he’s often used by the writers as a spiritual guide for the family.

If there’s one thing that makes Blue Bloods stand out from all the other police procedurals, it’s the family aspect.

While all the other shows explore the law enforcement system through various cases, Blue Bloods goes deeper and asks all the important questions.

What drives a person to join the police force? What role does family heritage play in the desire to serve one’s country? How does the experience vary from one generation to the next?

All of these questions, and many more, have been explored by Blue Bloods through the Reagan family.

As the show nears its finale, there’s only one thing left to do to wrap up the story nicely: give a person who was always there in spirit a chance to share his words of wisdom. Even if it takes a little flashback.

Joe Reagan, father of Joe Hill and brother of Daniel, Erin and Jameson Reagan, was a detective in the New York City Police Department.

He died in the line of duty in 2009, which means he’s been dead for a little over a year at the time Blue Bloods takes place.

Back in the first season finale, the Reagan family was shocked by the revelation that Joe Reagan’s death was not an accident, but rather a horrific result of corruption within the police force.

Since then, the family has carried on his legacy with even more caution, knowing the responsibility they have to fight such malice around them.

As police work has always been the link that binds all members of the Reagan family, traditional dinners aside, Joe has been present in the images, dialogues and minds of all the living characters throughout the past 13 seasons of the show.

The only way to pay tribute to him and make sure his character isn’t forgotten in the finale is to film a little flashback that connects him to the police in the past. Whether it was the day he graduated from the academy or some kind of heroic moment he had during his years of service, it would have been great to see.

Even though Blue Bloods, like every other show on TV, has to deal with a shorter season, there still needs to be at least one minute of screen time devoted to an important member of the Raegan family who has never gotten any.

Whether you think this is a nice touch to the final 14th season of Blue Bloods or you’d rather spend the precious time on the characters who are alive and need their storylines wrapped up, you don’t want to miss the season premiere.

Tune in to CBS on February 16th to be the first to find out where season 14 begins.
